Análisis crítico para la adecuada protección de las personas que se ven obligadas a migrar por cuestiones ambientales
Keywords:
Refugee, Environmentally displaced, Climate Change Migrant, International ResponsibilityAbstract
This paper analyzes two possibilities of adequately protecting people who are forced to migrate due to environmental factors. The first proposal circulates within the academic world and suggests the expansion of the term “refugee”, adopted by the Convention on the Status of Refugees and its Protocol, to encompass people affected by climate change hazards that threaten their survival. Furthermore, this article examines the hypothesis of adopting a new term that adjusts better with the situation suffered by the environmentally-driven migrant. The conclusion defends the importance of adopting this new concept along with of responsible and renewed UN policies by its Member States.
